Americorps

I am in Americorps for the next year, so the majority of my posts will consist of updates on that experience. i’ve been in the program since october 17th and have had alot of interesting experiences, including CTI (basic training), a 5 day roadtrip from Sacramento, CA to St. Bernard, LA, hiking in New Mexico, visiting the Alamo, working at the Camp Hope kitchen, building a playground with KaBoom!, spending a day at an animal shelter, being on Bourbon St. more sober than a pregnant Mormon, and meeting a man named Coyote who walks that fine line between smart and crazy like a drunk tight rope walker; he always falls to one side or the other. My team, Green 2, all lives together in a classroom at Camp Hope (it is formerly and will one day be again, a middle school). There are 12 of us, 4 guys and 8 girls, and we all work in the kitchen cooking for 180-700 people. Have you ever seen those reality shows where strangers have to live together? Remember that part in every show where someone gets punched in the mouth because he mentioned milk and one girl’s dad was hit by a milk truck and she can’t believe his insensitivity? They must pump some sort of drugged vapor through the vents in those houses because the 12 of us have been getting along fine.

Lesson to learn from this post: Reality show producers have the best drugs and they are willing to share them with contestants.
